One way that scammers use to get a callback from you, is leaving a voice message.
In these recorded calls, they claim to be from the police, the IRS or a hospital. It is about arrest warrants, legal actions against you or other emergencies.
When you make a recall, the caller will try to keep you on the line as long as possible. The call charges can be very high!
How to protect yourself:
Don’t call back if your phone only rings once!
Before answering a call, check whether the area code is from the USA. Calls from a foreign country should only be accepted if you have family or friends there. Most of those calls come from a the Caribbean region.
Do not make a recall if there is a fraudulent alert message on your mailbox with the request for a call back.
If you’re thinking about calling back, always check in an online directory where the number comes from.
